Nothing reflects your personal style as powerfully as a custom home. Whether you want the calm symmetry of a colonial, the open, transitional spaces of mid-century moderns, the coziness of craftsman bungalow, or the rustic, bring-the-outdoors-in of a mountain retreat, designing and building a home is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that brings a lifetime of joy. We help our clients dreams become a reality, whether thats through building a barndominium in the Utah mountains or a forever home in the city.
Our unique process involves working closely with clients to bring their vision to full build — from paper-napkin concept to architectural plans to materials to move-in day. We believe that boutique-style service and personal relationships bring stunning results, and our team has had the pleasure of working with exceptional client — discussing their aesthetic, assessing their needs, and finding creative solutions for functional beauty — to make their dream home a real home.
The first part of beginning a home or any structure with BBDC, is the design process. This means getting plans drawn from our architects and engineers, this is something we offer to any clients that may need this service provided. Once those plans are done that will give us an idea of the project scope and any further conversations we will need to take place in order to proceed.
Building a custom home is a complex process — which is why we focus so strongly on the relationships with our clients. It typically takes several weeks to understand your needs, determine the scope of the project, and makes we’re a good fit. After that, we move to the first steps in the process — designs and engineering — which can take four to eight weeks. So, depending on the scope of the build, construction can take anywhere from 6 to 18 months to complete.
You can always ask us, but there is also a lot of information online. Visit SLC.gov’s Building Services FAQ for more information. You can stop in to the permits and zoning office in the city and county building. Contact us and we’re happy to meet you there. The permit office is located at 451 South State Street Room 215, SLC.
